About us
Our Beginnings
In 2009, company founder Ed Dutton took the first step toward creating what is now a large, dynamic team dedicated to the long-term health of New Zealand’s waterways. Starting with just a van and loyal his dog Rufus, Ed set out with a clear mission: to bring together a group of people who share his passion and vision for improving water quality across the country.
Drawing in his experience in the stormwater industry, selling stormwater treatment devices, Ed noticed that many stormwater systems across the motu were not being serviced adequately, and in some cases, not at all!
Motivated by this insight, Ed decided to take action. He committed himself to addressing the shortage of professional maintenance services and set the foundation for a business focused on quality, reliability, and environmental stewardship.

A Story of Growth
Decades on, Dutton Stormwater has expanded to more than 50 staff across Auckland, Pukekohe, and Christchurch, maintaining over 6,000 treatment devices. Our clients range from local councils and leading commercial companies to residential customers who count on us for reliable service. It’s a success story rooted in strong values, technical know-how and innovation, and a firm dedication to the company’s vision that every waterway in Aotearoa is protected from pollutants.
The values that drive us
At Dutton Stormwater we have four core values to support our company vision and culture. We ensure that all decisions and behaviours are aligned with these values.
Flexibility
We pride ourselves on our flexibility, always approaching challenges with a positive and open-minded attitude. Our team is dedicated to continuous learning and personal growth, proactively setting goals, making plans, and seeking out new opportunities to improve how we serve our clients and communities.
Ownership
Ownership is central to our culture. Each team member takes responsibility for their role, delivering work with genuine pride and integrity. We believe in being honest, acknowledging our mistakes, and having the courage to engage in meaningful conversations when needed, ensuring transparency and trust with every project.
Unity
Unity drives our collaborative spirit. We prioritise the health and wellbeing of our team, practice open and clear communication, and value punctuality. By looking out for one another and actively contributing, we create a supportive environment that allows us to deliver reliable, effective service to our customers.
Respect
Respect is at the heart of everything we do. We listen attentively and communicate with courtesy, treating everyone—clients, colleagues, and partners—with understanding and compassion. Our respect also extends to ourselves, the equipment we use, and the environment we work so hard to protect.
These values are more than just words—they guide our decisions and actions every day, ensuring that our customers experience the highest standards of service and care.
