Committed to charity and the community

At Dutton Stormwater, giving back is part of who we are. We support initiatives that protect the environment, strengthen the communities we work with, and empower schools and industry through education. Our partnerships span from local organisations like De Paul House and Ranui House, to international initiatives such as Operation Clean Sweep, and the Umvoti AIDS Centre in South Africa. Explore the and see how we’re working together for cleaner waterways and stronger communities.

Local Impact: De Paul House

Located close to our Auckland base, De Paul House is an emergency housing provider supporting families in need. Since 2019, we’ve partnered with DPH to assist their foodbank, liaising monthly with their team to deliver groceries and essential household items. This ongoing relationship reflects our commitment to supporting vulnerable members of our local community with practical, consistent help.

Protecting Waterways: Operation Clean Sweep

We’re proud to be a partner of Operation Clean Sweep (OCS)—a global initiative managed by Plastics NZ—dedicated to preventing plastic pellets, flakes, and powders from entering our waterways and environment. Our team volunteers at OCS clean-up events across the country, providing hands-on support and hosting BBQs and refreshments to refuel the incredible volunteers who share our mission.

Beyond volunteering, we also offer guidance and practical advice to our member customers on how to ensure their sites are compliant and work toward becoming OCS certified. If you're a Plastics NZ member and would like more information on how to get involved or become certified, feel free to contact us or reach out directly to ocs@plastics.org.nz.

Christchurch Connection: Ranui House

In Christchurch, we support Ranui House, a facility run by the Bone Cancer Trust, by providing free annual servicing of their stormwater treatment devices. It’s our way of ensuring their environment remains safe and healthy for patients and families during challenging times.

Global Outreach: The Umvoti AIDS Centre, South Africa

This initiative is especially close to our hearts. The Umvoti AIDS Centre in Greytown, South Africa, was founded by Joan “Gogo” Dutton, mother of our founder Ed Dutton. Originally established to support children orphaned by AIDS, the Centre has grown alongside the evolving needs of the community. Today, it serves disadvantaged youth from all backgrounds—operating a daycare centre, running afterschool programmes, providing hot meals, and delivering outreach initiatives in collaboration with the Umvoti Municipality social services.

In a recent initiative, we sponsored four staff members to travel to Greytown to assist at the Centre. Their work included repairing driveways, building drainage systems to prevent flooding during rain events, educating the community on stormwater infrastructure, and spending time with the children—offering games, personal items, and heartfelt support. It was a deeply meaningful experience that reflects our commitment to making a difference, both at home and abroad.

Education and Community Engagement

We are tightly connected to the communities we serve, and our work carries an inherent educational aspect as we strive to protect and safeguard New Zealand’s waterways. Through our outreach, we aim to empower individuals and organisations with the knowledge and tools to make a lasting environmental impact.

Educational Seminars and Industry Engagement

We run educational seminars and workshops for primary schools, tertiary institutions, and industry bodies, helping audiences of all ages understand the importance of stormwater infrastructure and maintenance. These sessions are designed to be engaging, practical, and tailored to each audience—whether it's inspiring young minds or equipping professionals with best practices.

If you think your organisation could do with a bit of stormwater education - reach out to Grant, our Business Development Manager at grant@duttonstormwater.co.nz - we’d love to help!

Our team also speaks at industry events and academic forums, sharing insights and innovations that support cleaner waterways and more resilient communities.
