API Separator

An API separator is a specialized device used to separate oil and suspended solids from stormwater or industrial runoff before it enters a drainage system or waterway. Using gravity and a multi-chambered design, API separators allow oil to rise to the surface and solids to settle at the bottom, ensuring cleaner water is discharged and helping prevent environmental pollution.

Stormwater or process water enters the separator and flows slowly through a series of chambers. Heavier solids settle to the bottom, while lighter oils and hydrocarbons float to the top. The clarified water exits the system, while collected oil and solids are retained for safe removal and disposal.
